The city of Santiago de los Caballeros is the capital of the

It is located in the northern region in the center of the Cibao Valley, 155

The city was founded in 1508 during the first phase of Spanish colonization

Santiago has been historically one of the most important cities of the Dominican Republic, the scene of battles during the War of Restoration and be declared
the capital of the Government in 1865, when the Dominicans have recovered their
independence from Spain.
Santiago is located in one of the most fertile areas of the Dominican Republic.
The city is bisected by the river Yaque del Norte and is surrounded by two of
the three mountain ranges in the country: the Cordillera Central and the Cordillera
Septentrional.
The climate of Santiago is tropical, as in the rest of the
country, but more stable because the trade winds help mitigate the heat and
humidity throughout the year.
The city has always depended for their subsistence agricultural production and
livestock production and marketing of finished goods and agricultural products.
However, in recent years, the city saw the flourishing areas of the textile
industry and an economy based on services, including telecommunications. Tourism
is also an important part of the city's economy.
Santiago de los Caballeros has branches of large chain stores, banks, restaurants
and financial and educational institutions in the country.
The city offers many options for evening entertainment for families and adults,
with museums, cinemas, bars and nightclubs which are among the largest in the
country.
Among the major attractions there is the Monument of the Restoration, which
is the architectural symbol of the city and the historical center, an area where
tens of neoclassical houses dating from the nineteenth century are preserved.
