La Romana is the main town of the eastern
region of the Dominican Republic, with over 100,000 inhabitants and a distance
of 100 kilometers from the capital Santo Domingo. It was founded by the Spaniards
to use as a commercial port of export. American society "Gulf & Western"
was largely responsible for the business and financial center in the 1920s,
and significantly boost the sugar industry in the region through which is now
the most great sugar refiner in the country: the Central Romana.
During the '70s, the same U.S. company built a few kilometers from La Romana
an leisure complex for billionaire: Casa de Campo, which became the symbol of
tourism in the region and one of the most complete destination, and luxurious
unique in the Caribbean.
Although the region's economy relies on tourism, sugar production has always
been important, such as agricultural production.
In addition to Casa de Campo, La Romana has one of the most
memorable attractions of the Dominican Republic: Alto de Chavon, a spectacular
stone amphitheater, Roman style, for 4,000 people.
Other attractions include the beach of Bayahibe, just 20 minutes and Playa Dominicus.
From the port of La Romana sailing boats, catamarans and motor boats take tourists
to Isla Saona and Isla Catalina. The Saona Island is larger in area than the
Catalina and is located in the National Park Del Este.

The Cueva de las Maravillas
is located between La Romana and San Pedro de Macoris, she was discovered
in 1926. About 30% of the cave is open to the public. Inside you will
