La Descubierta is a municipality in the province's Independencia.
It is believed that it was founded by families across the country and the world,
it is assumed that some fleeing wars of the late nineteenth and others attracted
by the area of trade with Haiti. La Descubierta was elevated to the category
of municipality in 1983.
The main economic activities of this border town are agriculture and livestock
mesoscale. The main products are bananas, beans, pigeon peas, coffee and livestock.
Like most border towns, tourist development at La Descubierta
is rare.
